Parenting skills sessions and family therapy sessions means that sessions may include only the parent/s or if necessary the whole family as sometimes the system of the family needs to be revisited and improved in order for the parents to improve their skills. For example, parental stress can cause children to have challenging behaviour, however children's behaviour may cause parental stress.
Sessions will be individualised to the parent and family circumstances. It may include stress management strategies, understanding child development and developmentally appropriate behaviour, learning about child-directed play to improve the way parent/s play with their child, behaviour modification, trauma and its influence on child and parent functioning and secure relationships.
Sessions can be held in Carlton, Hillside and Niddrie. They will run for 1 hour and the amount will depend on individual circumstances. Government funded sessions may be available.
