Often, the child who have been through trauma can present with symptoms similar to ADHD. Trauma symptoms in children can manifest as challenging behaviours, inattention and lack of concentration, which can lead to problems with social, emotional and academic functioning.
When childhood trauma symptoms are not met with understanding and appropriate responses from adults then problem behaviours may occur.
Children who have been through traumatic experiences may respond differently. Some become impulsive, some withdraw, some display challenging behaviours and others have poor social skills, struggle academically, and/or have risk-taking behaviours to cope with heightened emotions. The way you respond, can change how they respond.
