Trauma Psychologist

Josephine is a trauma-informed counsellor and psychotherapist who recognises the signs of symptoms of trauma including decreased window of tolerance, signs of threat in her clients, and will work collaboratively with her client to resist re-traumatisation, provide hope and unconditional positive regard.

Techniques include trauma focused cognitive behavioural therapy, visualisations, emotional freedom technique, and inner-child work.  Josephine also helps clients learn relaxation techniques to feel safe in sessions and heal from traumatic experiences and to help clients learn how to self-regulate emotions and behaviour.

Trauma counselling and psychotherapy is to help you get your life back so you can thrive, feel safe once again and have a healthy relationship with yourself and others.

During sessions you will:
  • Have your experiences, feelings and thoughts validated in a safe environment
  • Learn your triggers and use them as part of your healing
  • Tolerate and manage your thoughts, emotions and behaviour
  • Recognise unhealthy and healthy relationships with self and others
  • Recognise unhealthy boundaries and how to keep healthy, safe boundaries
  • Manage dysfunctional behaviour, including passive-aggressive, aggressive and passive
  • Have a balanced and empowered sense of self

Sessions will consider your past experiences, social and psychological aspects of self to give you a new and better start in life.

Read information in "signs and symptoms of interpersonal trauma" to learn how children witnessing traumatic experiences such as violence or emotional abuse in their family home can also cause problems with their development and mental health.

Trauma can also cause post traumatic stress disorder
